Best Microphones for Podcasting

The industry standard for microphones for the last 30 years has been a lack of rich articulation, wide frequency response and serious rear rejection. Bob Heil, who spent 25 years at the CBS power house KMOX through his 'High Tech Heil' talk show segments, has changed all that.

Heil Sound's three large diaphragm dynamic microphones are created using a special mixture of neodymium, boron and iron. In the case of the PR 30, that magnet is the motor mechanism for a 1.5" diameter diaphragm that increases the transient response to match or better than some condensers.

The PR 20 is a tremendous hand held microphone for interviews as well as resting in the Heil designed SM 1 shock mount for studio work. Not just another ball microphone, but the most natural sounding wide frequency response with great voice articulation.

The PR 22 is the latest in hand held microphone technology. It employs the patent pending IsoBand and superior rear rejection. The IsoBand reduces unwanted handling noise. The PR 22 is amazingly articulate and makes a great interview mic.

The PR 35 is the most versatile microphone in the Heil family. It has the largest dynamic element in a hand held microphone, which gives it a really wide frequency response and like all the Heil mics it has outstanding rear rejection. If you already use the PR 30 you would love the PR 35.

The PR 40 has become the darling of the podcast industry with a frequency range of 28 Hz. to 18 kHz. It has a great articulate mid range rise at 5K (instead of the usual nasal sounding 2 or 3k), so there is no need for any EQ.
