While most headsets are designed to reproduce audio, they pay no attention to the ambient noise environment. In most cases, the outside noise is actually louder than the audio being fed through the headphones! Heil Sound counters this by applying active noise cancellation technology: two small, out-of-phase microphones are imbedded deep inside the left and right headphone enclosures. These microphones listen to the ambient noise as well as the program information, and a differential amplifier nulls out the undesired low-frequency noise.
As a result, noise components below 400 Hz are significantly attenuated. This includes fan blower noise, jet engine noise when you're trying to watch a movie on a plane, and the lower frequency components from nearby operators in multi-operator contest stations, all reduced as much as 70%!
